The programme is divided into six semesters with two semesters in an academic year. Each semester has a working duration of about 21 weeks as per the following breakup.
- Imparting of teaching 17 Weeks
- Preparatory leave 01 weeks
- Semester end examination (including Practical) 03 weeks
There is a break of 2 weeks after every odd semesters and vacation of approximately 6 weeks after even semesters.
The minimum period required for completion of programme is 3 years (6 semesters)
50% aggregate in 12th with English (core or elective or functional) and Mathematics or Computer Science/ informatics practice/Computer applications.
Candidates applying for Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) will have to take a common Entrance test (CET) conducted by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in the months of April & May, based on merit in this examination, students are admitted to the programme through Common Counseling Session..
Basic concepts of IT are imparted to the students. BCA provides understanding and skills related to the use of computer and its applications. The basic objective of the programme is to open a channel of admission for computing courses for students, who have done 10+2 and are interested in taking computing as a career.

At SGTBIMIT, faculty is chosen with great care keeping in mind the diversity of the programme. Ample time for practical is provided to the students with well-equipped computer labs. In the fourth semester, students are assigned with some topic for research and are asked to write a term paper on their study.

The Institute provides training / certification course on latest IT packages during every summer vacation to the students as a part of their summer project.
